No car owner wants to hear that the problem the car is having is in the transmission. Transmissions are one of the most expensive parts that a car owner might have to replace – if the car is old enough, it sometimes makes more sense to replace the car entirely than to replace the transmission. But I’ve found that there are ways to save when you need transmission work! Not only are there ways to save money on a new or rebuilt transmission, there are also ways to locate transmission problems and have them fixed before they become too serious. This blog is designed to help you take better care of your transmission, and avoid paying too much for transmission repairs.
Many businesses require a fleet of vehicles to make deliveries, run errands, or perform services. Contractors that go on location to work, like carpet cleaners, exterminators, and yard care workers, all use vehicles to go to and from their appointments. While a fleet of vehicles is necessary for a lot of industries, it can be a little bit tricky to manage all of the details involved. The best thing that a company can do is to keep detailed records on every single vehicle. The two main areas that need to be watched with vehicles are maintenance services performed and repairs.
Maintenance
There are many different services that need to be performed on every vehicle routinely. From oil changes to tire rotations, there are a lot of individual parts that need to get attention. Failing to stay on top of all of these needs can be harmful and more expensive in the long run. Vehicles need to receive maintenance to keep them performing their best. Prevention is the key to making sure that vehicles don't get damaged from neglect. Keeping detailed records prevents you from missing services on some vehicles or accidentally doing the same one twice.
Repairs
Another critical component of managing a fleet is tracking the repairs. It's important to get the information correct to keep an eye on things in the right vehicle. For example, replacing the fuel pump in one vehicle should be marked. This way, you can keep an eye on the repair. If the same problems occur, you can have the vehicle looked at more closely to see if there is something else causing the problem. If you are replacing tires on all of the vehicles, don't rely on looking at the tires. Instead, track which ones have had replacements to save yourself time and money.
One thing that may also come in handy is knowing what may be around the corner in your vehicles. While no one can tell what is going to break down next in a vehicle for sure, but you can have a good idea. Many companies buy the same make and model of vehicles. If something starts going out in one or two vehicles around 50,000 miles, you can have a good idea that it might happen in the other vehicles. By keeping accurate, detailed records, you can know what to watch for and when to consider replacing the vehicle all together.
Utilizing Technology
There are a lot of different tools that can help you to manage your fleet of vehicles. From computer programs to apps, it is getting easier to keep all of your information straight. Some companies still prefer to manage everything with clipboards and stickers in each vehicle, but having everyone on the same page with a manager at the helm makes things easier. Keeping track of all this information helps the work to get done on time. (For more information on fleets, contact Parkway Wrecker Service)
