No car owner wants to hear that the problem the car is having is in the transmission. Transmissions are one of the most expensive parts that a car owner might have to replace – if the car is old enough, it sometimes makes more sense to replace the car entirely than to replace the transmission. But I’ve found that there are ways to save when you need transmission work! Not only are there ways to save money on a new or rebuilt transmission, there are also ways to locate transmission problems and have them fixed before they become too serious. This blog is designed to help you take better care of your transmission, and avoid paying too much for transmission repairs.
If you have a jon boat and enjoy hunting water fowl, why not combine the two? Using your boat to hunt is a great way to enjoy both of your hobbies at the same time. However, your boat may need to be customized to be used for hunting. Here is how you do it:
Hide Any Bright Areas on the Boat
Most jon boats are available in fairly monotone colors to blend in with the environment. However, you may have to do a little more work to make sure you are fully camouflaged so the fowl can't see you in the water. If there are any areas that are covered in chrome, you need to paint over those places with camouflage colors, such as green, brown, or grey. If your entire boat is painted in a lighter shade, such as a light grey, you may need to paint the entire boat. You can either paint a camouflage pattern or just paint it a solid, darker shade.
Add a Duck Blind
When you are hunting water fowl, you need to have something that will cover you from the top because the ducks and geese can easily see you when they are flying. To hide yourself, you will need to add a blind system to your boat. You can make your own using camouflage netting, brush, sticks, and leaves or you can purchase a ready-made system from the sporting goods store.
Add Your Seating and Other Accessories
Most jon boats are very basic and do not have any seating. Hunting is a sport that will require you to sit for a good amount of time, so you need to have some good quality seating. The great thing about customizing your boat is the fact that you can choose the seats you like best. When you are hunting, keep in mind that you will need to be turning in different directions, so you may want to install seats that swivel around 360 degrees.
In addition to seating, you may want to add some other accessories to make your boat more useful. If you plan to have a dog with you, you should install a ladder or something that will allow the dog to easily climb back into the boat. You should also place a mat or something for the dog to sit on. You should also install a box or chest to hold your equipment, such as ammunition, tools, and anything else you may need during your hunt.
Customizing a jon boat for hunting can be a really fun project. Be sure to keep in mind the amount of weight you are adding to the boat. You may want to consider adding some extra stabilization to either side of the boat, like an anchor system, so that you don't risk tipping the boat.
